Fans of flicks and our four-legged friends are invited to celebrate a new breed of cinema as The Dog Film Festival tour makes a stop in Southern California.
Combining mini-movies with a mission to help homeless animals, both the funny, family-friendly films featured and the funds raised in support of a paws cause will put smiles on the faces of movie buffs.
Program One
Perfect for canine loving kids, 10 rib-tickling, Rover-themed narratives and animated shorts are shown in the first 90-minute program including:
- The Hardly Boys in Hardly Gold: Famed photographer William Wegman's wardrobe-wearing Weimaraners star as sleuthing Spots in this half-hour canine comedy caper.
- The Lewis Lectures: Are you baffled by the sometimes bizarre behavior of your barking buddy? Dogs share their words of wisdom in this animated short.
- Beta: A clever canine can converse with his human companion…at least, when the mood to speak strikes.
- Useful Dog Tricks: A tongue-in-cheek take on the many ways that your pal with paws can help out around the house.
Program Two
Fourteen family-friendly films will wow the canine-loving crowd at the second screening. The 90-minute feature will include documentaries, narratives and selections with subtitles, such as:
- Second Chances: A heart-warming PBS documentary highlights the efforts of incarcerated women to give shelter dogs a new lease on life as service dogs.
- New York Dog Concierge: The camera follows over 20 city apartment-dwelling canines as they embark on a constitutional with a dog walker.
- La Vie d'un Chien: A scientist transforms into a dog in this sci-fi send-up.
A happening with a lot of heart, half of the proceeds from the presentation will benefit the San Diego Humane Society, which has been saving the lives of companion animals in need since 1880. Outside the movie theater adoptable dogs from the non-profit organization who dream of being cast in the coveted real life role of a forever family's fur baby will get the chance to meet potential pet parents.
