Today we enjoyed a super fun outing in Austin! With Irie and Tiki, we headed to Austin for the Best Friends Strut Your Mutt dog walk and fundraiser. As I told you about in a post earlier this week, I’m proud to be an ambassador for this great organization (and Irie and Tiki are very excited as well!)
This morning’s event was held at Austin’s Mueller Lake Park. Once the site of the municipal airport, I can’t count the hundreds of times John and I flew in and out of this location on assignment for our guidebooks or magazine work. Those were definitely special times — but to see the hundreds of dogs out there today supporting the work that Best Friends and all the regional groups do to help homeless pets was in a class all by itself.
The event started early with booths and fun, all followed by a walk around Mueller Lake. Austin is a wonderfully pet-friendly city and supportive of rescue causes so it was no surprise that the turnout was great…
There were numerous rescue groups (and great adoptables) walking today…
…and it was a nice, leisurely walk in which some of us took advantage of the ice stations to cool off in the Austin heat!
The setting at Mueller Lake was just perfect for a morning walk…and to reflect on the 9,000 dogs and cats that are killed in U.S. shelters every day because they just don’t have a home.
Be sure to check the Strut Your Mutt page and our post for future locations; events are planned through October 24 and fundraising continues through November 7! As Tiki will attest, it’s definitely a tail-wagging good time!
